Note: I hope to add more details to this page. If your name is here, please email me any information you would like to include (e.g., positions held since leaving my lab, current position, accomplishments, family information, best or worst memory from the Tranel lab, link to your company or homepage, etc.). I have not yet tried to include undergrads and rotation students; if you fall under one of those categories and want to be included, let me know!

Past Lab Members

Graduate Students

Lixin Liu, M.S. 1999.

Mark Jeschke, M.S. 2002.

William Patzoldt, M.S. 2002; Ph.D. 2005.

Weilu Jiang, M.S. 2003.

Federico Trucco, Ph.D. 2005. After finishing with his graduate training, Federico continued in the lab for a five month period in light of an ongoing research agreement between us and INDEAR, an Argentine biotech start-up interested in Amaranthus genetics. By the end of 2005, Federico joined INDEAR as leader of their Amaranthus project, a project aimed at exploiting wild germplasm (i.e. weedy amaranths) for the improvement of grain cultivars. This project was essentially a continuation of Federico’s research in my lab and is providing opportunities for further collaborations. In January of 2008 Federico was named Head of Product Development for INDEAR, and he became the company’s CEO early in 2009. Federico states that he remains a "golf enthusiast" and is now "happily married."

Danman Zheng, Ph.D. 2007. Currently a post-doc in the NRES Dept. at UIUC. "I am working on integrated physical and genetic mapping of the apple genome and on a soybean transformation project right now.  My current lab is also on the third floor of ERML, and that makes me feel like I have not left Tranel’s lab at all! My son, Anthony Yang, was born 11/12/08."
