Research

My research program focuses in three main areas: 1) quantitative genetics (the inheritance and manipulation of traits controlled by many genes); 2) applications of genomics (information obtained at the DNA, RNA, and protein levels) to the development of improved hybrids and varieties; and 3) deployment of traits created through genetic engineering (transgenic events), including efficient breeding strategies and stewardship of governmentally regulated materials.  Much of this work has a strong computational component.  The primary crop is maize, although applications developed in maize as a model crop are expanded to other plant species.
