Specializing in:
Western corn rootworm management
Information technology, including the development of innovative educational
materials to enhance University of Illinois Extension programs.
Applied molecular research projects for insect identification and assessment
of biological control agents.
Use of biological control agents in livestock pest management
Use of forensic entomology in criminal investigations
Current Research
On-farm research (with many cooperating farmers) to refine the decision-making
threshold for western corn rootworms that lay eggs in soybeans in eastern Illinois.
Use of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and restriction fragment length polymorphisms
(RFLP) for species and subspecies insect identification.
Development of an Expressed Sequence Tag (EST) database to evaluate gene
express in western corn rootworms.
Development of instructional materials for distribution via the internet
and the use alternative delivery systems if connectivity is limited.
