Virus Scanner Image   How to Install McAfee

Help protect your computer files and e-mail by using and updating your anti-virus software.  If your computer
is not protected, you are at great risk of getting a virus and of spreading the virus to others.

These instructions assume you are using a CD produced by staff in M103 Turner Hall.
You may also be able to reach some files on the department server or from the CITES Software Webstore.

1. To uninstall an old version and install the new version:
      Insert the CD labeled "Department Software CD".
      Double-click the icon labeled My Computer on your desktop.
      Click on your CD drive, Department Software - McAfee - uiuc454.exe
          - Click OK that it will install, and it will automatically do everything else.
          - Click OK when it says "McAfee Virus Scan Setup Completed successfully"

2. Make sure you have the latest virus definition files for McAfee
     
Insert the CD labeled "Department Software CD".
     Double-click on the icon labeled My Computer on your desktop.
     Click on your CD drive, Department Software - McAfee – Sdat####.exe
          - Once running, click next and it will begin to install.
          - Click Finish.


SETTINGS

These settings allow you to have McAfee automatically update itself and automatically scan your computer according to a set schedule. 
Having McAfee do this automatically helps to be sure your computer is kept up to date and clean.

Click Start - Programs - Network Associates - VirusScan Console

Double-click AutoUpgrade.
            Click on the tab labeled Schedule.
            Half-way down, under Start at, you want it to say 12:00 every Thursday
           
Click OK.

Double-click AutoUpdate.
            Click on tab labeled Schedule.
            Half-way down, under Start at, you want it to say 12:00.
                   - You also want to uncheck Thursday. Unclick Saturday, and Sunday if your computer
                      
isn't used on those days.
           
Click OK.

Double-click Scan My Computer
           
Click on the tab labeled Schedule
           
Check the box labeled Enable
           
Select Weekly
           
For the area labeled Start at, you want ti make it start at 12:00 every Friday

            (it should look like below)

Click OK

Close out of Virus Scan console.
