Empty Temp Folders

We install a program to help empty temp folders, which take up space on your computer. This program is especially helpful for users of Windows 2000 and Windows XP, since Windows likes to set up a temp folder for every user.


To install the EmptyTempFolders program

Insert Department Software CD or just go to where you've downloaded/saved the file from (eg. http://www.danish-shareware.dk/soft/emptemp/index.html or Monarch)

Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop

Click on your CD drive - Department Software

Double click on the file labeled emptemp2Setup.exe

  • Click Start to install
  • When done installing, click OK to close
  • Close out of all the windows.

To Use EmptyTempFolders 2.83

Go to Start - Programs - Empty Temp Folders 2.8.3 - Empty Temp Folders 283
You Should see the following window

When in the Temp Folders tab, click on the Options dropdown and select Add predefined folders.

  • Click on the button labeled Select all.
  • Now uncheck c:\documents and settings\(your login)\application data\microsoft\office\recent\
  • Also uncheck c:\documents and settings\(your login)\recent\.
  • Click on the button labeled Apply.
  • Click on the button labeled Close.

Click on the blue lightning bolt to clear everything from that folder.
Go to the Cookies, History, URLs tab, click the lightning bolt to delete files
If you have multiple users, you need to go through this add of predefined folders under the login for each user.


To Run Empty Temp Folders on a schedule

Go to Start - Programs - Empty Temp Folders 2.8.3 - EmpRunner
It will put the program on your taskbar on the lower right side of your screen.

Click on that blue R icon, which in the picture above is located directly next to the time.

Click on the box labeled Empty Now.

You can set it up to empty your temp files and cookies on a regular basis by selecting one of the times. I have mine set to empty every 45 minutes.

Click Hide. It will keep an icon in the lower-right side until you reboot.
